Our Bird
Guard Services
Why do I
need a chimney cap, bird guard or raincowl??...A good
question, and even if you don't have a working fire or
nesting birds near by then why should you even worry
about it. Well, our bird guards are not just for birds,
but the cowls help prevent water ingress down into the
chimney flue. Most chimneys have a lead tray, this picks
up any moisture running down the inside of a chimney and
sends it back out to the external faces. Unfortunately,
chimney fires and over sweeping can damage this tray and
allow water to penetrate further down into your house,
soaking through the walls as it hits warmer and drier
brick through natural absortion. So any chimney can
benefit from a guard and cowl, especially if you already
have water marks appearing.
Chimney C
caps or vented caps, are a fantastic way to seal off the
top of a chimney while keeping air flow up through the
old flue. This gentle flow of warm helps prevent moisture
building up within the old chimney void that can lead to
mould and moss forming and even water marks bleeding
through, while reducing up to 95% of lost heat from an
open inactive chimney. These devices can literally pay
for themselves within a few months!
Birds nests
account for over 90% of chimney fires, they provide the
perfect kindling to ignite the carbon build up on the
walls of a flue. Not only that the dense soft padding on
top soaks up any moisture and increases the risk of water
marks, not to mention acting as a perfect bung for gas
and solid fuel appliances alike causing a rapid build up
of CO within a room.
The old
type push in bird guards are not enough and an all to
eager sweep can push these out causing damage to the roof
tiles and sudsequent vehicles and buildings as it rattles
on down.
From as
little as £75 + vat!, you can prevent further corrosion
and prolong the life of your chimney and flue.

Here you
can see a selection of C Caps on the redundant flues and
a bird guard and rain cap on the active flue.
